But Rob…? Box explained

Hi all,

I thought I would take the opportunity to share with you one of my favourite parts of KOG. this part is a little blue box known as the But Rob…? Box.

The But Rob…? Box is a question box for the kids to put  questions for me to answer. These questions are questions that may be off topic from what we were looking at in KOG that week, or something they feel is important that they wish to have an answer to but were to embarrassed to ask in public.

Alternatively they are questions they think will get them a block of chocolate.

let me explain…

The But Rob…? Box has some rules that come with it.

Rule 1
The Kids can put what ever question they want in the box as long as it relates to God, religion, the bible or some other matter of spirituality. In doing so they know that I will endeavour to provide a serious answer to their question.

Rule 2:
I am not allowed to answer the questions off the top of my head, no matter how well I think I know the answer. I MUST take at least one week to pray, think and research the answer. This is so that the kids know that I take their questions seriously and by extension them seriously as well.

Rule 3:
If I cannot provide an adequate answer to the question the person who asked the question and if they wish to reveal their identity (But Rob…? Box is allows for anonymous questions), then I must give them a block of Chocolate. This rule is to help teach kids that there are not always clear cut answers to the questions we have, that sometimes there are a few different answers or there are no valid answers to the question.

There are some questions that I can answer, but there is a % of accuracy to the answer. When this occurs it is left up to the group to vote on whether the answer was solid enough to be considered answered.

Rule 4:
I must, wherever possible answer the questions from the bible. This is because at KOG we uphold that the bible is the ultimate source to find out about God and all the good he wants for us.

This is the But Rob…? Box. I must admit that the kids at KOG have asked some remarkably good questions and there is already one question that I am concerned I may not be able to provide an answer to. The questions in the Box are so good that in the near future I intend to Post the questions and the answers that I have discovered up here so that families can share these with their kids.

One of the reasons we instituted the But Rob…? Box is because we believe that God invites questions about who he is and what his plans for the world are. He gave us a brain for a reason, and he intends us to use it, as such we are invited to ask questions and expect answers from him. Though we may not like the answers.

If you know any kids in Grades 3-6 who are asking questions about God, or would benefit from exploring who God is why not send them along to KOG on Friday nights during school term? We run from 5-6pm, and it only costs $2.

God Bless and see you soon

  1. Can I just say what a relief to find someone who actually knows what they’re talking about on the internet. You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe you’re not more popular because you definitely have the gift.
