St John’s Weekly Bulletin – Sunday 9 July 2017

Last Sunday I reminded people about the evening and weekday services that we offer at St John’s. By chance, I was able to take the Healing Eucharist Service last Monday night. What a beautiful service Fr Ken has organised there! Time to hear from the scriptures and reflect on their meaning for us, time to sit in God’s presence in quiet, and time to share the sacred meal that Christ gave us.

I encourage you to take the time to join this service next time it is on. Even if you don’t feel a specific need for relief from a health problem, who among us doesn’t need healing from the trials of life around us?

This Sunday’s New Testament reading is from St Paul’s letter to the Romans, where he reveals the struggle he had in his life: “I can will what is right, but I cannot do it… who will rescue me from this body of death?” His only answer is: “Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.” He knew that the presence of God and the power of God was the only place where he could find healing.

May you be blessed with health in every part of your life this week.

St John’s 1K Club Update

A fortnight ago we launched the St John’s 1K Club, an invitation to church members to help finance vital work to stop water damage to the church building and church hall. We have received a grant to pay for some of the work, but need to raise $60,000 to complete the project.

At the end of this of this week, members of our church have so far committed 39K ($39,000) to fund this work!

This is an wonderful amount of generosity to our church. Thank you to all who have donated, or who have committed to making a donation over the next two years. We deeply appreciate all who have given or who are planning to give to this project.

High Tea

Tickets are on sale now for the High Tea with St John’s and Miss Porters House on Saturday 5th August between 2pm–4pm in the Church Hall. Tickets are $35 each.

Please ring Jenny Walkom on 0419497392 or speak to any of the Guild Ladies. RSVP with the payment by 14 July.
