The Cardboard Box Challenge is this weekend. With the weather forecast being for rain we limited ticket numbers to 100 as we couldn’t have people outside as we did last year! Upcoming event – Messy Church Goes Back to School
Well… the start of school this week! Congratulations to students starting school for the first time this year… the start of an exciting journey and discovery. (Congratulations to all parents who survived the school holidays intact as well!)
St John’s is a church that is packed with students and teachers and we want to celebrate all the work that God does in our lives through education and passing on wisdom. Towards that aim, we are offering Messy Church Goes Back to School on Sunday 11 February at 5pm. Upcoming event – Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day): 13 February 2018
We are looking forward to a fanastic pancake supper evening on Tuesday 13 February, 7pm. Battle it out on the quiz. Send your table’s best runner up for the pancake race. Come and prepare as we “change gears” in our community life and begin Lent – the time of reflection that lead us to the Cross and Resurrection life at Easter. RSVP: http://www.saintjohns.com.au/rsvp
Worship in Lent
To make this time special, we are starting extra times of worship during the week. We begin with an Ash Wednesday service at 6.30pm on 14 February.
During Lent, we will continue with Morning Prayer offered at 9.30am on Tuesdays and Holy Communion each Wednesday at 6.30pm.
Healing Eucharist returns for 2018
One of the regular services we offer is a Healing Eucharist Service on the first Monday of each month. This is a beautiful quiet service held in our chapel. We sing a few quiet songs, and gather around the altar table, being anointed for healing and wholeness with holy oil. A quiet reading from the Scriptures, time to think, and space to be quiet in God’s presence. Such a different feeling from rushing around in every-day life.
Healing Eucharist returns Monday 4 February 2018 at 6pm. You’re always welcome to join in. Who knows what God might do in your life?
Upcoming event – Safe Church Training
Fr Ken is leading a NVEST Safe Ministry Training session on Saturday, 24 February, 2018 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Volunteers who work with children at St John’s are required to complete this training, but we strongly recommend that all parents and people with a passion to keep St John’s safe undertake it. It’s an excellent resource for all parents who are concerned about the safety of their children, whatever institutions and groups they are associated with.
The cost of workshop is $30 and St John’s will reimburse members of our church who do this training to enable their ministry here.
