Happy Australia Day for this Thursday. I hope that you had a chance to reflect on what you are proud of in our society, and where you hope for our society to grow, develop and improve for the future.
I’ve had a chance to upload some of the photos from the Cardboard Box Challenge last weekend. A wonderful team of volunteers put together a fantastic day of creativity and fun. Thanks to all the people from our church who supported doing good in our community in this way.
It was fun to see the creativity of the children, given such simple things to work with. Cardboard, tape, a plastic knife, and a few other bits and pieces… and out of that sprung an amazing range of creations. Robots, cars, trains, interactive games, buildings, a working bus that kids could sit in, a fort, dragons, dogs… even a model of a church titled St John’s.
We had about 190 people join us and it’s our hope that perhaps some of the people who visited our church last weekend will join us again this Sunday for Blessing of the Backpacks!
Blessings, Murray
This bulletin was emailed to members of the parish on Thursday 26 January 2017 – if you would like to join the Weekly Bulletin email list, please call the church office on 02 4927 5399 and we will happily arrange this.
Blessing of the Backpacks
This Sunday our services are:
9am – Short service of Holy Communion
10.45am – Blessing of the Backpacks.
Thanks to everyone who was able to say yes to volunteering this Sunday. It’s our hope that we can provide a warm welcome to all our guests who visit us this week!
Parents, if your children want to come with a school hat, a school bag, or something to show a connection to their schooling, that would be fantastic. Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday!
New women’s Bible study groups
We are planning to start a ladies’ daytime bible study to meet on Thursdays during the school term. The aim is to make this accessible for mothers of preschool children, and so hope to organise a crèche for the children. All women are welcome, though – not just those caring for young children! Please contact Fiona Dyet on 0422 099 264 if you are interested in being part of the group.
If daytime doesn’t work for you, we would love to set up a separate women’s evening group and are looking for someone who would be willing to host this in their home. We’re not asking for someone to lead this group, just to host – but if leading a group interests you, please let me know. Is hosting a group something that you could offer to support women from your church community? Please let Murray know if you can!
Hall housekeeping
Two short notices to keep our church hall in order:
1. There is a new sensor light in the entrance passage to the hall. When leaving the hall, please ensure that the upstairs light is off using the switch inside the main doorway. The downstairs passage light will turn off soon after the last person leaves the building, so please do not hunt for an off switch for that light!
2. Please take notice of the new signs on the hall kitchen refrigerators. We need to make sure that only food safe for consumption is kept in those refrigerators.
If you place something in the refrigerator, please attach a label to it from the fridge door. Attach a blue label for food that anyone is welcome to take, or a pink label that people may not take. Use the marker to write on the label the date you placed food in the fridge.
Any food not marked with a label, any labelled food older than two weeks, or any condiment (sauce, butter etc) older than 6 months is liable to be fed to the bin goblins.
