St John’s Weekly Bulletin – Sunday 19 November 2017

It has been great to work with members of the New Lambton home group over the last few months to prepare for Advent, and a special time of prayer in the leadup to Christmas.

It’s about offering you a time of space to be with God every day in the four weeks before Christmas. Often we feel overwhelmed by all the things that need to be done before the end of the year! Well, this is about restoring your balance, and making space for what is most important.

I’ve been talking about this over the last few weeks in church, and here’s a recap of what it will involve.

We will be offering you a booklet with a series of readings and ideas for prayer. Each day we start with a time of reflection and preparation, then a short Bible reading on a theme that speaks about preparations for Jesus coming into the world. Then there are some notes about the reading, an idea for your prayer time and some ideas about how to pray as a family. We are encouraging you to think about prayer under four headings: P. R. A. & Y.

P is for Praise. We have so much to be thankful to God for. Find something… or as many things as you would like that inspire you and say thank-you for all that God has given us.

R is for Repentance and Releasing. We often wander off the track that we know we should be on. We often deliberately make wrong choices. This time is for turning back (repenting) and asking God to set us free from the things that drag us down (releasing).

A is for Asking God for the things we need… and for the needs of others around us.

Y is for Yielding. TIme to stop talking and ask for God to bring to mind what we need to be aware of. What is God revealing to us?

We will be launching this on 3 December and I really believe you will be blessed by taking the time to be involved. Please make an effort to be in church on 3 December to be able to join in from the start!

Blessings, Murray

This bulletin was emailed to members of the parish on Thursday 16 November 2017 – if you would like to join the Weekly Bulletin email list, please call the church office on 02 4927 5399 and we will happily arrange this.

Missing church on Sunday?

If you can’t make it to worship on the weekend, please don’t forget that we have alternatives during the week. On the first and third Monday evening of each month we have services with times for listening to God. The first Monday evening of each month we have a Healing Eucharist at 6pm, the third Monday of each month we offer a time of worship and Christian meditation.

If you can’t worship with us on Sunday, we would love to welcome you to worship with us on Monday or Thursday. The next meditation service is this coming Monday night. Please join us if you can.

Hall door key

The door on the St John’s Hall now has a keycode entry lock.

If you had a key that gave you entry to the hall, it will still open the toilet door but not the front door. Please contact Murray on 02 49275399 to get either a PIN code or a key-tag that will open the door.

If you don’t have a key but need access to the hall, the location of the key is still the same, but you need to swipe the tag rather than open the door with the key. If you have any questions, please let us know!

Christmas Puddings

The Guild are selling Christmas puddings, $25.00 large and $5.00 small individual puddings. They are available after the 9.00 am service and before the 10:45 am service or you could email Jennifer Benson hdb@hotkey.net.au to make arrangements to collect a pudding. The sale of the puddings assists the parish.
