St John’s Weekly Bulletin – Sunday 16 September 2018

Welcome to St John’s! Warmer weather is finally upon us this week with several glorious days of blue skies, sunshine, and warm weather. This time of year is a wonderul opportunity to bask in the beauty of God’s creation; to be still as “the heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” (Psalm 19:1-2)

We hope you can make it this sunday to join us as we worship our awesome God! This weekend Fr. Ken Youmen, our locum tenens here at St John’s, will be away at a conference, and so we offer a very warm welcome to Rev. Les Forrester who will be leading our 9am and 10:45am worship services.

Every blessing for the week to come,

Mark

This bulletin was emailed to members of the parish on Wednesday 12 September 2018 – if you would like to join the Weekly Bulletin email list, please call the church office on 02 4927 5399 and we will happily arrange this.

Tonkin Family Update

The Tonkin family would like to thank all those who have provided meals and donations over the past few weeks. Last week was week 14 of 43 chemotherapy treatments and was very tiring! Over the last fortnight Adelaide has had two hospital stays (one planned as part of treatment and the other due to a high fever) but has been enjoying a rest from treatment over the last few days. An MRI was scheduled for this week but had to be postponed due to an infection. However, Laura reports that “Adelaide is getting a little better at sitting now too at 9 months old and is miraculously at the 97th percentile for height!”

Please continue to pray for Adelaide, Pierce, Verity, Laura and Nathanael – particularly that all goes well with the upcoming MRI, for her oncologist, that her doctors continue to source the best possible advice and information on treatment, and especially pray for Adelaide as she undergoes this treatment, for strength, resilience and ongoing growth, so that the treatments can continue without delays.

Building Friendships

Ladies please join the Women’s Guild and their guest The Reverend Jacqueline Drewe, the Deacon at the Cathedral for drinks between 4.00 and 6.00 pm this Saturday. Please contact:

Jenny Walkom jrwalkom@ozemail.com.au

or Jennifer Benson 4952 6279 by Friday morning if you will be attending.

Supporting St John’s Church

We encourage members of St John’s to support the ministry of our parish by giving directly to the parish account, rather than bringing cash to church. If you can do this, our account details are:

BSB: 705-077
A/C: 00040401
Name: St John’s Anglican Church Newcastle

Thank you to all members of our parish who are able to support ministry in this way.

Gingerbread House Making Registration

On Saturday 24th November a gingerbread house making afternoon will be held for families at St Johns. The afternoon will start at 2pm and afternoon tea will be provided. The cost of a kit is $35 and it includes all the materials, gingerbread and decorations to complete the house.

The closing date for registration will be the 13th October as the kits have to be ordered in advance. To pre-pay please direct deposit $35 to the St John’s Account (details above) with the reference “GB (Surname)”. Further information is available from Margret Youman on 0419 230 133.

Save the Date

A Market Fair has been proposed for Saturday 8th December to be held in the church grounds. We invite you to save this date pending approval of the proposal from Parish Council. More details to follow.

Healing Eucharist and Mindfulness Services at St John’s

A reminder that St John’s offers several mid-week services of healing and prayerful meditation. On the first Monday of the Month a gentle service of healing and Eucharist is offered, where we meet the healing presences of Jesus in a real and tangible way. On the third Monday of the Month, we offer a service of Taize meditation. This is an opportunity for mindfulness in the presence of the Spirit, through a series of guided meditations for healing and peace. Our Next service will be a service of Taize Prayer and Mindfulness on Monday the 17th of September at 6pm. All are welcome
