St John’s Weekly Bulletin – Sunday 16 April 2017

It was wonderful to be able to join with everyone who celebrated Easter with us this year!

On Maundy Thursday we commemorated the Last Supper with services in the chapel at 10.30am and 7.30pm.

Good Friday saw two events: a Reflection service at 9am and a 10.45am start for the Kids and Families Exploration of Easter. Rob did a great job of writing letters and journal entries from people associated with the events of Easter as a way of getting people into the six scenes that we had around the hall and church, and a set of questions to accompany each scene. Rob also produced a musical backdrop for each scene to enhance the atmosphere of the events.

On Holy Saturday at 7.30pm, Fr Ken led the Lighting of the New Fire and commitment to discipleship.

Then on Easter Day we celebrated with services at 9am, 10.45am and 5pm. This year, following the tradition of the early Church, it was wonderful to have a baptism in the 9am service on Easter Day!

Thanks to eveyone who worked so hard to make these times of worship a great success.

My hope and prayer for you is that God will fill you with new life and hope at this special time of year.

Blessings,

Murray

Mission Giving

Each year parishes are asked to set an amount for their Mission Target, parish council has agreed that our target for 2017 will be $7,000: $5,000 to ABM’s Adult Literacy Program in PNG and $2,000 towards the work of the Mission to Seafarers in the Port of Newcastle. There are a number of ways you can support our mission target, for those parishioners who use duplex envelopes something in the “Beyond the Parish” side of the envelope. For those who give their church offering online, you can make an additional online offering marked “Missions” or you could put something in a plain envelope and mark it “Missions” and put it on the offering plate.

During Lent envelopes will be available as extra Lenten Giving for the work of ABM, to assist projects that need extra financial support.

Please continue to pray of the work of ABM and the Mission to Seafarers.

Parish Fair – 6 May 2017

The Annual Parish Fair will be held on Saturday 6 May 2017 from 9am-1pm!

Your assistance with the Fair would be very much appreciated! The Women’s Guild need help with the provision of goods for the various stalls and also help on the day.

Stalls include: Morning Tea, Raffle, Soup, Pickles and Jam, Handcraft, Books, BBQ, Trash and Treasure, pre loved toys, Sweets, Cakes, Fruit and Veg.

If you can help on any of these stalls please contact Jenny Walkom on 0419497392 or speak to any of the Guild members.

Lemons are needed to make lemon butter, also small to medium glass jars with lids to put the jams or pickles in. These can be left in the Hall kitchen on the back shelf.

Trash & Treasure can be left in the Hall on Friday 5 May or before 9am on the morning of the Fair. This is so we don’t inconvenience other groups using the Hall.

We look forward to making this a great parish fair in 2017!

Men’s Weekend

The 2017 Anglican Men’s Weekend will be held 19-21 May 2017. This is a great time for men to get their faith built up with a great weekend of teaching and support. The main speaker will be Rob Llewellyn, a former professional musician, now an Anglican minister in this diocese. Please get in touch with Phil Ashley-Brown for more details, or get an information postcard from church.

Thank you to all members of our parish who are able to support ministry in this way.
