St John’s Weekly Bulletin – Sunday 12 February 2017

Well, we are heading for a scorcher this weekend

Last year at our Annual Meeting, we agreed to put $10,000 towards the cost of air conditioning the church building, to make it as welcoming and comfortable as we can for the many guests who come to St John’s evey week. Due to the financial pressures of last year, we couldn’t put that money towards the project, but we realise how important this is as every summer gets hotter. Parish council is meeting this coming Thursday and we hope to be able to announce a start towards an Air Conditioning Fund very soon. If you have ideas for fundraising, or have some money put aside that you would like to contribute to this project, please see me, or contact Howard Benson, our parish treasurer.

Please stay safe in the heat this weekend. I do hope that you can join us for worship.

Blessings, Murray

This bulletin was emailed to members of the parish on Friday 10 February 2017 – if you would like to join the Weekly Bulletin email list, please call the church office on 02 4927 5399 and we will happily arrange this.

Home Groups resuming in 2017

This week, two of our Bible Study groups started for 2017.

The first was the Cooks Hill group, meeting on Wednesday nights, currently in the Church with Ken and Margret. For more, please contact Fr Ken on 0438 281 379.

Starting for the first time was a new Women’s Group meeting on Thursday mornings in Windale. If you are interested in joining this group, please contact Fiona on 0422 099 264.

We are keen to get other groups going, so if you are interested in joining a group, please get in touch straight away on 02 4927 5399.

KoG and Youth – returning 17 February 2017

KoG is our Friday afternoon group for kids in Primary School and Youth is our Friday evening group for high-school aged children. Both KoG and Youth will resume on Friday 17 February 2017. KoG runs from 4.30pm-6pm and Youth is 7pm-8.30pm. Contact Rob Woolfrey, our Youth Minister, on 0425 278 063 for more information.

Communion in homes and hospitals

One of the ministries that we love to offer here at St John’s is a service of Communion in people’s homes when they are unable to make it to church.

So if you aren’t able to make it to church – if you are in hospital, if you are temporarily housebound through physical illness, are suffering from depression, have mobility problems, whatever – we would love to come and share the Eucharist with you. It doesn’t need to be a long visit, but we are always happy to come.

Please contact Murray on 02 4927 5399 if you would like to be visited at home or in hospital, or if you know someone who would like a visit.

SRE – School Scripture

You may have seen the recent media attention about SRE (School Scripture classes) that I mentioned in my sermon last Sunday. Bishop Peter released a really positive statement about SRE last week and I encourage you to read it. There is a copy on our website at: 20170207 Bishop Peter School Scripture Letter

If you are interested in teaching Scripture in schools, please speak to Rob Woolfrey, our youth minister here at St John’s.

Prayer Resources

This term, kids in Sunday School are looking at the theme ‘Learn to Pray’, and examining what Jesus taught us about a relationship with God.

This is a vital part of our spiritual development, whatever age we are. St John’s provides daily resources for prayer on our church website. At www.saintjohns.com.au/pray you will find fresh resources for prayer Monday-Saturday every week. We would love you to make use of those resources in developing your relationship with God.

St John’s Guild

Members of the St John’s Women’s Guild met on Monday and have pledged a donation of $4000 towards the work of the parish this year. We thank the Guild for their hard work to support our mission.
