St John’s Organ 150th Anniversary Celebration

Organ Concert: Sunday 13 November 2016, 2pm

An extract from the ‘Newcastle Chronicle’ on November 7, 1866 reads “Many lovers of fine sacred music will be glad to learn that a very superior organ has just been erected in St. John’s Church, Lake Macquarie Road. It was ordered some months ago from Mr. J. W. Walker, of London and has recently been sent out by him in the Strathnaver, its total cost being over £300…”.

We are excited to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the St John’s Organ, which was installed in the church in November 1866. To mark this occasion we will welcome Peter Guy, organist and choirmaster at Newcastle Cathedral, who will give a recital at St John’s on Sunday 13 November 2016 at 2pm.

Ian Brown, who has tuned the organ for a number of years will speak about its history and David Cole, a former organist and choirmaster, will recall some fo the highlights of his time and that of Madame Rachel Le Patoural, to whom we owe thanks for a number of our beautiful windows.

All are welcome to attend this concert.
