Kids @ St John’s!
We have a huge range of activities for children as part of our weekly church life. The folllowing list outlines many of these, including what we have on offer for your children during our regular Sunday worship.
Kids Church | 9:00am Sunday
Our 9am Sunday School is offered for school-ready children from the start of the service. Age-appropriate classes are held upstairs in the Sunday School room in the church hall, and include lectionary-based lessons and activities using Seasons of the Spirit resources. The children return to the church in time for Holy Communion with their families.
Resources and toys are always available at the back of the church for younger children, and children and babies of all ages are always welcome at St John’s.
Kids Church | 10:45am Sunday
Kids’ Church at our 10:45am service is offered during the sermon and caters to younger children, although older children are welcome. A variety of resources are used, including story-time, crafts and activities, and “Godly Play”, and while most topics are lectionary based, occasionally other Bible stories not included in the lectionary are explored.
Kids Church | 5:00pm Sunday
Although the 5pm Kids’ Church is offered in the church hall during the sermon, the fun for the children starts at the beginning of the service with the designated “Kids Pew” in the front of the church. The children at 5pm are encouraged to take part in the service itself, and often help with singing at the front. Once Kids’ Church starts in the hall after the opening worship time, games and activities, bible stories, and interactive discussion stimulate their exploration of the Bible and Christian issues.
Youth Group | Monday
The Youth Group at St John’s, known as ‘Tribute’, is an exciting part of our week. It all happens on Monday night, beginning at 5:30pm with an optional bible study. The fun continues at 6pm with games and activities, including theme nights such as Masterchef night, beach excursions, death by chocolate, sports nights, and movie nights. read more
Playtime | Wednesday 10:00am
St John’s Playtime, our playgroup for preschool-aged children, meets on Wednesdays from 10am-12noon in the beautiful grounds of the church. It’s an active group of about 30 children along with their adults who come to play, sing, do crafts and have fun together. Cost is currently $4 per child
Young Mums’ Group
”We’ve had a baby boom at St John’s recently! The Young Mums’ group meets regularly with their babies over coffee and cake at nearby restaurants and parks, to socialise and as a means of support for new mums as well. Babies are a wonderful way to grow a church, and we welcome young children at all our services.
